Final Concept Delivered for Easthampton, MA
12/18/2024
- Square Footage: 10,000
- Partners: Easthampton Skatepark Committee, City of Easthampton Parks Department
- Project Completion: December 2024
We did the initial site visit in early 2021 to assist in identifying a suitable location. There were several options considered for the skatepark, each presenting its own set of unique challenges. After a thorough design process involving years of analysis and exploration, the teams' collaborative effort has led to its final location and design. The local advocates are currently working with the municipality to secure funding, which will enable the City of Easthampton to build its first concrete skatepark. The community is hip and vibrant with a northeast small-town charm. The adjacent Manhan Rail Trail is a significant community asset, providing more connectivity, and making the park easily accessible as a no-cost alternative for future park users. It’s also a great area to raise a family, and soon those families will be able to enjoy some custom concrete.

Adaptive and Neurodivergent Considerations in Skatepark Design Thinking at Platform Group
7/27/2024
Skateparks are just as much a social vehicle as they are a sports facility. Because of this, it’s important to consider the amenities and experience surrounding the skatepark facility. Chaperones, parental units, non-active friends, and support are all part of the social community that will utilize the passive areas of the skatepark. Access from all angles and intentional design of the perimeter of the park is just as important as the field of play itself.
